Totally Spies Puzzle Doll by Maple Rose (spies.lzh) [21 Mar 2004|12:00am]
Hm: I'm always stunned and amazed at Maple Rose's coding. They make some of the most interesting and well-thought out dolls I've ever played with. I always expect the best and most elaborate coded dolls from them, and they never dissapoint me. This set was like playing an online game on a high quality games site like Neopets. The puzzles were very well done (and HARD, for me, atleast). I like, also, that if you complete the puzzles, you get a little KiSS-style surprise. My only problem with this set? I wanted MORE PUZZLES! But I'm content with what I got. This is a really nice set, and I'll marvel over it for years.

Rick: Oh! I'm really amazed by the coding in this doll! This doll really amazed me with both fun fashion and games that were still really fun after repeat playings. I must admit, I've watched the show a few times (*hides*), and this doll captured the 'feel' of the show perfectly. All the art was taken directly from the official website, so I don't have too much to say about that. But the games- man, so much fun! Usually, games in KiSS dolls feel kind of thrown-in and tedious, especially when beating the games is required to open the wardrobe. Luckily, the games didn't fell thrown-in and all, and there was always that handy "solve" button. The two difficulty levels added even more depth. This doll is a marvel of how to integrate non-doll 'game' aspects into kisekae!

Lilian by Mary-chan (Mc-lil.lzh) [21 Mar 2004|12:00am]
Hm: I have to say, this is quite a cute little doll. I love the 60s fashion theme, you don't see many KiSS dolls taking advantage of it such an interesting era in fashion. The style is freaking precious, and the base is adorable. The artwork is well done and consistant throughout the whole set, and the clothes are detailed and really look like fashions from the 60s. I also like that the bangs and the back of the hair can be changed independantly. Some of my problems with it, though, is that about half of the hairstyles don't really fit the 60s theme, and the background is unfixed, which can be a problem for someone who has the bounding option off (like me). But it's a great doll, and I enjoyed playing with it.

Rick: Mary-chan has been putting out cute, fun dolls for a while now, so I was happy to see she'd released a new one. Unlike Jack, I didn't instantly notice the 60s-era fashion- she looked like one of the hippie chicks that hang out in my city! I really enjoyed the soft colors and the various patterns on the clothes- it really gave the character a cozy, country/nature kind of feel. The wardrobe was deceptively large and mix-and-matchable, as well. My main complaints would be the unfixed background- as Jack noted, this is really only a problem with people who don't use bounding, but since I am one of those people, it got on my nerves. I was also kind of put-off by the menu- some of the icons were a bit small and touchy. Some text pointing out what the different buttons were changing would also be nice. Overall, this doll is another success from Mary-chan, and a lot of fun!

Lumina by Terechem (lumitere.lzh) [21 Mar 2004|12:01am]
Hm: This set is very aestetically pleasing, I have to say. The shading style is very nice, and I like the colours and style. I also enjoy that this artist has very original fashion designs, and makes the little furry character seem even more interesting than it is already. The colour cycling, while most dislike it, was a blessing to me. I like when the different coloured versions of cels are just put all into one so you don't have to wade through colour after colour of the same cel. The base is very cute, as well, I can't tell what animal she's supposed to be, but it sure is cute! The wings are a nice touch as well. Two things I don't like, though, are the background, and the font. The background looks like something that was just thrown in there last minute, and the font is hard to read...but besides that, it's a very nice set, and I enjoyed it.

Rick: This doll was such a pleasant surprise!!! First off, let me say that I love Terechem's shading style- it reminds me a bit of MadApostle's, which is by no means a bad thing- very very vibrant and lifelike! Terechem also has a great sense of fashion design- no cookie-cutter, run-of-the-mill clothes in this doll! Every single item of clothing comes with at least two color options- I found that it was really fun to try different color combinations between items. The option to change the base doll's fur color was also much appreciated, along with the dearth of hairstyles. Terechem has risen out of nowhere to release a slew of really fun dolls this last update- with such good technical skills and creative ideas, I'll be really interested to see what she releases next.

Vlana The Sorceress by Elanor (vlana.lzh) [21 Mar 2004|12:01am]
Hm: What an interesting set! The art was very nice, especially the background. I really don't like 3D art, but it worked nicely with the well-drawn basedoll and clothes. The clothes are very fantasy-ish and unique, and the colour changing of them was a nice touch. The hidden features are very nice, and kept me playing with it for a while. The FKiSS and special little animations were very nice and made the set feel even more magical...one thing that bothered me though, was that you only got one pair of shoes to cycle through. I was hoping for something more, and that one pair of shoes you're given arn't even that detailed or creative. It's still a lovely set, though.

Rick: When I first opened the doll, I searched for a few minutes trying to open the wardrobe- once I realize that you changed outfits by clicking on the clothes, I was very disappointed. It makes it impossible to really mix-and-match with only a handful seperate articles to change between. The different color schemes helped, but I still found myself really disappointed by the wardrobe. The mix of black pixel outlines, photoshop shading, and 3D rendered background effects didn't really work for me, it was just a bit too jarring. While this doll did have a number of neat effects (such as the spinning globe and the shooting stars), I didn't really enjoy it very much.

Lost Sakura by Mariye (lostsaku.lzh) [21 Mar 2004|12:02am]
Hm: The set has a very nice, detailed story, which I enjoyed. And the story really sounded like it was well-thought out. The clothes are rather unique in design, and pretty well drawn. The pose for the base doll is very interesting, as well, and gives her sort of a flirty look, which goes well with the character from what I read. The little brick wall below her is interesting, but I thought that the hair options being put ONTO the wall as graffiti would be nicer looking. The little mini-doll sitting on the wall looks so sad and lonesome...even though the rest of the background is mostly the transparent colour, it still goes very well with the background peices provided, and looks as if it's one whole image. But there's also some stray pixels on some of the items, and as I've stated before, that's a pet peeve for me. But I really like this doll, it has alot of character.

Rick: I've always appreciated the creative touches that Mariye puts into her dolls- but once again, the art falls a bit flat. I found the lack of shading and the thick lines to be a bit off-putting- I would really be interested in seeing what Mariye's work would be like with a bit more detail and attention put into the art. The backstory of the character is great, and the interface with the brick wall, along with the doll to change hairstyles on the smaller base, really fit the 'feel' of the doll. I really did enjoy this doll, however, the lack of shading put me off a bit.

I took the new userpicture down. I didn't like it as much as I thought I did...

Also, I'm sorry for not posting the reviews sooner. Rick and I have been sick on and off throughout the month, plus being busy with family/work/etc.

Thank you for your patience.
